Vote NO on Dec. 8 Prop. 2-1/2 Override:
Randolph will hold a special election on December 8th on whether to raise taxes by $9.5 million--a "Proposition 2-½ Override." What is that $9.5 million for? That's a secret!
The Town Council will decide later what to spend it on--it's a "blind override."
Town Councilor Jesse Gordon forced a Town Council vote to allocate funds instead--but the Town Council voted NO on a "menu override." That COULD look like this, where YOU vote yes or no on each individual "menu item" in a "menu override" in Spring 2027:
- $3.5 million for increased costs in our schools
- $3.5 million for this year's structural budget deficit
- $1.7 million for a street paving program
- $750,000 to initiate a townwide shuttle van
- $50,000 for a July 3rd Commission
And why is the vote in December? Jesse says that will suppress the number of participants--a "secret election." Jesse forced another Town Council vote, to hold the Prop. 2-½ Override on election day--but the Town Council voted NO on a townwide ballot on November 3rd alongside the state election.
And here's the worst secret: you are NOT ALLOWED to speak at the Town Council against the "blind override." The rules say that the people cannot address upcoming ballot questions! So what can we do?
- Vote NO on the "blind override" on Dec. 8th, and ask your friends and neighbors to vote NO also.
- Sign our petition for a "menu override" in the spring. That's in time for the budget that takes effect on July 1.
- After the "blind override," when we're allowed to speak again, come to Town Council to demand a "menu override" in the spring.
- In November next year, vote AGAINST any Town Councilors who supported a "blind override" and a secret vote!
